The Ordinance imposes rules very similar to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). It requires special licensure, proof of vehicle inspections, certificate of automobile insurance coverage, and entire set of regulatory rules drivers must follow. Included in these regulations is a Zero Tolerance Policy (RULE TNP1.09) and requires companies to deactivate drivers who receive complaints.
Drivers must have their vehicles marked, carry a Chauffeur Identification Card, and comply with a whole host of regulations. If a driver breaks any of these rules, they face a fine of up to $1,000 per offense. The City is pushing traffic officers to be aggressive with violations and drivers sometimes get 3 or 4 tickets at one time. This means the potential fines are quite high.
Most drivers do not realize how serious and expensive ticket these tickets can be, and are confused because the fine is not listed on the ticket. Drivers need to carefully read the ticket to see if the words “TNP” appear on the ticket.
